Capital Line Design-Builders has been selected as the preferred bidder for the project. The City and Capital Line Design-Builders have entered negotiations with the goal of awarding the contract by the end of May 2024. Major LRT construction along the alignment is anticipated to start later this year.
Early works construction continues at many locations along 111 Street to prepare the LRT alignment. This preparation work, including utility relocations, allows the Design-Build contractor to begin major LRT construction in summer 2024.

The City of Edmonton has selected Capital Line Design-Builders as the preferred bidder to design and build the 4.5-kilometre Capital Line South Extension LRT project. The City will now enter into negotiations with Capital Line Design-Builders with the goal of awarding the contract by the end of May 2024. Major LRT construction is anticipated to start later this year.
An 8-foot-tall, double-boarded, pressure-treated wooden fence is being offered to eligible property owners along the LRT alignment. The fence will be built on the property line.
Fence construction is anticipated to begin in spring/summer 2024.
In June 2022, a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) was issued to identify and shortlist qualified bidders to design and build this LRT extension. Two bidders were shortlisted. The Request for Proposals (RFP) was issued to the two shortlisted bidders on March 31, 2023.
On May 16, the LRT project team discussed recommended project scope changes with City Council that are needed to remain within the approved project funding. Changes to the project scope were the result of significant economic pressures and market uncertainty that arose since the original project cost estimate was prepared in 2020. The extension will be completed in two phases. Phase 1 will extend the line from Century Park to just north of Ellerslie Road, and Phase 2 will extend from Ellerslie Road to Allard/Desrochers. Concept design for Phase 2 has been advanced.
