Upgrades to the Whitemud Drive/Terwillegar Drive interchange are a part of the Terwillegar Drive Expansion Program.

About the Project

Stage Two of the Terwillegar Drive Expansion Program includes:

  • Whitemud Drive/Terwillegar Drive interchange upgrades: ramp upgrades and transit priority measures. This includes widening the northbound Terwillegar Drive to eastbound Whitemud Drive and westbound Whitemud Drive to southbound Terwillegar Drive ramps 

  • Whitemud Drive widening and upgrades

  • Widening/rehabilitation the Rainbow Valley Bridges: 4 lanes in each direction

  • Pedestrian/cyclist bridge over Whitemud Drive near 142 Street


Stage Two is funded by the City of Edmonton through the 2019-2022 Capital Budget and in partnership with the Government of Alberta.

Concept planning and preliminary design

The preliminary design for Stage Two has begun and is anticipated to be completed by fall 2021. More information for public opportunties to view the plan will be available late 2021/early 2022.

The City has started the planning and design of a pedestrian/cyclist bridge over Whitemud Drive near Whitemud Creek.
