The City is developing the design plan for a new pedestrian bridge at 170 Street. The crosswalk was completed in 2019.

About the Project

A new pedestrian crossing is needed on 170 Street, between 87 Avenue and 90 Avenue. To accommodate current and future safety and accessibility needs, the City installed an interim crosswalk at 170 Street and 90 Avenue in late 2019. In addition, the City is now developing the design plan for a new pedestrian bridge.

Pedestrian Bridge Design

The City recently completed a concept planning study to identify the recommended location and structure type for a new pedestrian bridge across 170 Street between 87 Avenue and 90 Avenue. A new pedestrian bridge would provide pedestrians access to area businesses, schools and transit options while minimizing disruption to vehicular traffic along 170 Street.

The City adopted the recommendations of the concept planning study and will be completing the design by spring 2021. The design will provide the City with additional information necessary prior to construction. Upon completion of the design, the project team will request funding approval through City Council for the delivery of the new bridge.

170 Street and 90 Avenue Crosswalk

An interim crosswalk was installed at 170 Street, on the south side of 90 Avenue, for the accessibility and safety of those requiring to cross east and west in the area. This crossing is an important connection in the area that provides access to local businesses, transit, amenities and neighbouring communities.

This interim crosswalk will be removed once the new pedestrian bridge is constructed.
