A new park is planned for the block between 102A Avenue and 103A Avenue, along the east side of the Armature. Once fully constructed, the park will be approximately one and a half city blocks in size. The park will be named Kinistinâw Park, which is a Plains Cree word meaning “us three.” Previously, 96 Street was called Kinistino Avenue, an anglicized spelling of the word Kinsitinâw. The naming of the park acknowledges Edmonton’s Indigenous community and the past avenue name. It also provides the opportunity to correct a piece of history by using the proper spelling of the word.
Public consultation on the park design concept will begin in late 2016, and park construction is planned to begin in early 2018.
