2016 : Building Condition Assessment Report
The City is committed to restoring the historical properties of John Lang Apartment, Dame Eliza Chenier Residence and Lester N. Allyn House to be structurally sound and in alignment with the potential future uses for the houses.
Dub Architects have been retained to review the condition of the houses and present designs that contemplate three options for restoration:
- Structurally stable but house will not be brought up to current Alberta Building Code requirements and therefore not fit for occupancy
- Shell - structure with empty interior - all lathe and plaster to be removed from interior walls leaving exposed bare studs, all electrical and mechanical systems to be removed. All cabinets and fixtures to be removed. (Must be in alignment with preservation of historical elements)
- Habitable - brought up to current Alberta Building Code
To better inform the design options a hazardous material assessment, geotechnical soil sampling and a site survey will be completed by end of July 2017. To undertake this work there will be workers and machinery on site for periods of time.
Following development of the 3 options for restoration, the City will evaluate each option and determine the option to be refined and implemented through Detailed Design and Build.
