Project Overview
The City, Edmonton Public School Board and the community have been exploring the current use and future recreation needs at the Dermott District since 2009. The site concept plan included a review of existing site amenities and feedback from stakeholders and the community on their recreation needs that integrates the existing leisure centre, Vimy Ridge Academy and tennis courts with new elements including a twin arena, LRT line and community park amenities. The site concept plan proposed new parking and access off 83 Street to minimize traffic and parking on 81 Street.
The park master plan development provided more details required to address community needs and aging infrastructure. The District Activity Park Renewal Program provided a long-term strategic approach to renew district activity parks and identified Dermott District Park as a priority for the 10-year capital investment agenda and 4-year capital budget in 2015-2018.
