The Urban Design Vision is intended to guide and coordinate planning and investment activities within the Stony Plain Road area.
Revitalization efforts have been ongoing in the Stony Plain Road area since 2004. Over that time, the City of Edmonton’s Citizen Services and Sustainable Development departments have held several charrettes, working sessions, interviews and open houses to ask people in the study area what their aspirations were for the future Stony Plain Road Corridor.
The Stony Plain Road Urban Design Vision represents the information collected at these consultations.
The Stony Plain Road Urban Design Vision is intended to guide and coordinate the planning and investment activities within the study area. In addition, the Urban Design Vision aims to:
- Establish an integrated and long-term vision to guide future public and private developments and to achieve high-quality functional design in the area.
- Inform the preparation of the Jasper Place Area Redevelopment Plan (ARP) within the Stony Plain Road Corridor. The future ARP will take precedence over the design recommendations outlined in this Vision, which may be partially or wholly integrated into the ARP as it proceeds.
The Stony Plain Road Urban Design Vision addresses the future desired character, land use and urban design considerations along Stony Plain Road and the surrounding area.
It provides guidance for the future integration of the west LRT line. And it acknowledges the dual roles of the Stony Plain Road Corridor as a multi-use destination community and a vital connection between Edmonton’s westend and downtown core.
