River Crossing is envisioned as evolving over time into a vibrant gathering place. These current or planned projects work toward this goal.

The projects in West Rossdale - River Crossing currently underway or in the planning stages include:

Walterdale Bridge

The construction of a replacement bridge is now complete.  Some additional work is required to complete the shared-use path on the east side of the bridge and minor landscaping.

Heritage Interpretive Plan

The Heritage Interpretive Plan helps define the future identify of River Crossing and provides guidance on how the area's heritage will be reflected on the ground as change happens over time.

River Crossing Business Plan

This plan will build on the West Rossdale Urban Design Plan, Heritage Interpretive Plan, and previous engagement and visioning activities for the Rossdale Generating Station. It will confirm an integrated concept for the future of River Crossing, and identify what critical public investments and actions will be required to balance costs and city-building outcomes, and to bring the vision for the area to life. Work on the business plan is beginning in 2017 and is expected to be complete by the end of 2018.

Stabilization of Rossdale Generating Station

The City has invested in stabilizing the historic generating station to support potential repurposing in the long term. The future of the generating station will be considered as part of the River Crossing project.
