The 'Missing Middle' Infill Design Competition criteria were created and supported by the Spruce Avenue Community League and Spruce Avenue residents.

The competition will focus on demonstrating how medium-density 'missing middle' housing can be both economically feasible and include good design that works in Edmonton.

We are excited by the opportunity for Spruce Avenue residents to take part in shaping the Missing Middle Design Competition, and thus, informing the final designs for a proposed housing development unique to our community.

Meet Our Competition Community Advisors

The City has enlisted the efforts of 2 Spruce Avenue residents to serve as Community Advisors to the 'Missing Middle' Infill Design Competition, between November 2018 and September 2019.

The Community Advisors will help ensure that community perspectives provided by the Spruce Avenue Community League and Spruce Avenue residents are considered during the Missing Middle Design Competition jury deliberations. This will include acting liaisons between the Spruce Avenue Community League and residents and the City of Edmonton’s Missing Middle Infill Design Competition team.

Competition Criteria Community Workshop

Spruce Avenue residents were invited to a workshop on October 20, 2018 to help develop the criteria that will be used to judge the 2019 Edmonton 'Missing Middle' Infill Design Competition submissions. The workshop was also an opportunity for residents to share their thoughts on local neighbourhood context that should be taken into consideration.

The feedback and input from this workshop was recorded into a What We Heard Report  and further refined into competition criteria by the Community Advisors and 'Missing Middle' Infill Design Competition Project Team.
