The adult female gypsy moth (Lymantria dispar) has a wingspan of up to 6 cm; the wings are white in colour with a few black wavy lines or flecks.

The buff coloured egg masses are 3 to 6 cm long and 2 to 3 cm wide and resemble pieces of chamois leather.

The Problem

Gypsy moth caterpillars feed on the foliage of most trees and are among the most serious pests of deciduous species.
