Mount Pleasant Cemetery will be undergoing construction of the second floor of the indoor niche building and an outdoor niche area in 2019 and 2020.

About the Projects

Mount Pleasant Indoor Niche (Columbarium)

Planning and design for the second floor of the indoor Niche building  is complete and will be under construction in 2019 and 2020. This work will create additional indoor niche availability at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Construction is tentatively scheduled to start in fall 2019 and is anticipated to be complete by spring 2020. The Indoor Niche building will remain open during construction. The construction will have no impacts on existing niche units within the building.

Outdoor Niche Construction and Pathway Rehabilitation Area

The outdoor stone pathway has shifted and needs to be rehabilitated for the safety of all visitors. The pathway will continue to deteriorate in the future, therefore the outdoor niche units along the pathway will be relocated to a southwest area in the cemetery. A new scattering garden with plants and shrubs will be placed along the pathway once it is rehabilitated.

Preliminary design of the new pathway is complete and construction is anticipated to begin in spring or summer 2020. Completion is anticipated by summer 2020, weather dependent. Moving of the niche units will take place in spring 2020.

If your loved one has been laid to rest within a niche unit at the pathway, please contact Cemeteries Administration at 780-442-0974 or cemetery@edmonton.ca with any questions or concerns.
