Tree lined roadways, an impressive salute to veterans, and monuments representing a variety of languages and religious backgrounds give this cemetery a strong sense of Edmonton’s multicultural community. Over the years, a variety of ethnic groups have requested that sections be set aside for their members and often linguistic, religious and ethnic groups are found together.
Beechmount Cemetery is one of the City’s historical cemeteries, dating back to the early 1900s. It was the first cemetery started by the City rather than a private company. A high point in the cemetery’s history came in 1957, with the installation and unveiling of a Cross of Sacrifice in the southwest corner overlooking the Field of Honour.
Cenotaph Walkway Maintenance
The sidewalk up to the cenotaph located at the west end of Beechmount Cemetery is being replaced with new sidewalk, stairs and a wheelchair ramp. We look forward to the completion of these improvements in early November 2016.
