The City has been offering curriculum-based school tours and presentations to Edmonton teachers for over 20 years. Tours and presentations are free for schools in Edmonton and will resume once the pandemic situation ends.

Virtual Program - EWMC Live!

Join a Waste Educator from the City of Edmonton for a show on waste, streaming live from the Edmonton Waste Management Centre! In this 45 minute program, you and your students will learn what goes where, see some waste processing in action, play an interactive game, and have the chance to ask your waste-related questions -- all from the comfort and safety of your classroom!

Audience: Grade 4 students (Edmonton schools only, please)

Times: Monday through Friday:  9:15am, 11am, 12:45pm, or 2pm (no presentations Friday afternoons).

To Request a Presentation: We are no longer taking bookings for the 2020-21 school year. Please check back in August for fall offerings.

To participate in the program, your classroom will need:

  • Webcam that shows all the students, if possible
  • Large screen so all students can see the multimedia presentation
  • Speakers
  • The presentation will be hosted in a Google Meet; please set to full screen once you are in

Facility Tours

Edmonton Waste Management Centre Tour (Gr. 4-12, post-secondary)

Available: Due to COVID-19, we are unable to book facility tours and in-person presentations at this time.
Duration: 2 hours
Group Size: Limit of 35 participants per tour, including all students, teachers and adult chaperones. Groups larger than 35 must book 2 tours.

With its collection of recycling and composting facilities, the Edmonton Waste Management Centre has been called “the ultimate waste theme park.” Your students will discover how waste can be transformed into resources, observe household recyclables being sorted and learn the importance of taking e-waste to the Eco Station.

Note: Please note that school tour bookings fill very quickly! Please book early to avoid disappointment.

Turn your students into waste warriors! In this hands-on program, students will learn about what happens to waste items in Edmonton, sort waste items by where they go and be challenged to identify how to better reduce, reuse and recycle.
