Our 40+ year-old LRT network needs upgrades and maintenance to ensure it keeps serving Edmontonians for another 40 years and beyond.
TLC for LRT was created to help you effectively plan your commute. TLC for LRT projects include upgrades to LRT stations, infrastructure and tracks.
Most maintenance work is scheduled when there is generally lower ridership (evenings/weekends) to help minimize service disruptions to transit riders. However, there may be some weekday and/or long-term changes to help accomplish some projects.

Crews are working to replace an escalator at Central LRT Station. This work is anticipated to be complete by fall 2024.
This work helps keep the escalators operating safely and efficiently.
In 2022 and 2023, escalators and elevators were upgraded at the following stations:
In spring 2024, Ledcor, the City’s contractor, began construction of the 99 Street underground pedway from Churchill LRT Station to the Station Lands development north of 104 Avenue.
The 99 Street pedway project will help grow the existing pedway system in the downtown core, while adding new access points.
During the project, crews will be excavating, drilling and using large equipment, which will require the closure of sections of 99 Street and 103A Avenue to vehicle traffic.
Crews will perform track work in summer/fall 2024 to address aging infrastructure and help improve the longevity of the LRT system. Track work will occur at:

A new Harbin Gate will be built on 97 Street, just north of Jasper Avenue. Foundation footings and landscaping were previously installed as part of the Jasper Avenue New Vision project.
Throughout 2024, the City will work with the City of Harbin and Edmonton’s Chinese community on the design of the new gate. Construction of the new gate is anticipated to be complete in 2026.
Security cameras, doors, lighting and other safety enhancements will be added to the Corona and MacEwan LRT stations as part of the Alberta Transit System Clean Up Grant. Work will begin in summer 2024.
Drainage improvements are needed on the Metro Line, between 107 and 108 Avenue, to correct surface drainage deficiencies. Crews will be installing additional drainage channels and a heat trace system to assist drainage during freeze-thaw cycles. This work will begin in fall 2024.
