Customers are highly encouraged to follow AHS guidance to wear non-medical masks or face coverings when using public transit, or in other locations where physical distancing is not possible. 

Essential health care workers may be eligible for Late Night Supplement Service that includes one-way trips provided by DATS between 10pm and 1:30am. Please call 311 for eligibility and to register.

Fares Temporarily Suspended and Refunds

Fares are temporarily suspended for all customers until further notice. This applies to LRT, conventional bus, DATS service, Route 747 to the Edmonton International Airport and regional service provided by ETS. Customers traveling regionally are reminded to double check fare requirements for service managed by (St. Albert Transit, Strathcona County Transit and Leduc Transit).

These changes are in response to keeping the community safe, and are not intended to encourage increased use of transit. Stay home if you can, but for those who must use transit, we want you to be as safe. Travel during off-peak times, if possible, and follow all the AHS recommendations to help prevent the spread of the illness.

For the health and safety of our operators, and to keep our service running, customers are asked to board and exit using the back doors only. Customers requiring the use of ramp deployment or the bus to kneel  are still allowed to board or disembark at the front of the bus.

While fare enforcement is paused during this time, Peace Officers will continue to regularly patrol transit property and vehicles to ensure customers’ safety and security.

Refunds and Reimbursements

No refunds or prorated reimbursements are being provided for March transit passes, however, customers who purchased an April transit pass can apply for a refund. Details will depend on the type of pass.

How do I get a refund on my April monthly pass?

Customers who purchased an April pass through retailers (e.g. convenience stores), will have options to exchange their April pass for a monthly pass at City facilities once the suspension is lifted.

Customers who purchased their April pass through the ETS Public Store online should contact the online store for refund instructions. The credit card used for the original purchase will be used for processing the refund.

Customers who require refunds for April passes can submit a written request by mail. A cheque refund will be issued once the April pass has been received, along with the original receipt (if available), and the customer has provided the address they would like the refund cheque sent to. It could take up to three to five weeks to process the refund.

Customers who purchased a youth monthly pass from a school should contact the school for a refund.

How do I get a refund on my ETS@Work pass?

City of Edmonton employees participating in the ETS@Work have their payroll deductions suspended during this time.

Employers who purchased April passes through the ETS Public Store online should contact the online store for refund instructions. Employees should contact their employer for instructions.

How do I get a refund on my senior/youth tickets?

Adult and Youth tickets will not be refunded at this time - the tickets are valid until the end of the year printed on the ticket.

How do I get a refund on my seniors’ annual pass for 2020?

The annual pass is good for a year, so no refunds will be issued at this time.

How do I get a refund on my Ride Transit April pass?

Customers who have already purchased their April Ride Transit pass, will have options to exchange their April pass for a monthly pass at City facilities once the fare suspension is lifted.

How do I get a refund for a pass if I'm an AISH auto-debit customer?.

Transit fares were March 21. As a result, any AISH customer who uses auto-debit will have had the charge reversed for a Ride Transit April monthly pass. Also, there won't be an auto-debit transaction in April to pay for a May transit pass.

Note: AISH customers using auto-debit have funds transferred from their account six weeks prior to the transit pass date. This means April transit passes were paid for earlier in the year.

Fare Programs

ETS has many programs that provide reduced fare for groups of Edmontonians.

Ride Transit - The Ride Transit Program offers a monthly transit pass to eligible low-income Edmontonians at a subsidized rate of $34 or $48.50 per month effective February 1, 2020, depending on your household income. Eligibility recently expanded, so please check if you now qualify.

PATH - Providing Accessible Transit Here (PATH) provides free monthly transit passes to individuals who are homeless or are at high risk of homelessness.

Senior Annual Pass - Residents of Edmonton, 65 years of age and older qualify for an Annual Pass.

U-Pass - U-Pass provides eligible students at participating institutions unlimited travel on ETS and participating regional providers.

Edmonton International Airport (Route 747) - Route 747 is Edmonton Transit’s direct service to the Edmonton International Airport.

Attendants Ride Free - On regular ETS, any attendant with a fare paying DATS registrant can travel free. A DATS registrant must show their DATS registrant card for the attendant to travel free. On DATS, a designated mandatory attendant travels free while accompanying a fare paying DATS registrant. Children, aged twelve years and younger, of a registered user ride free of charge.

All ETS customers must pay a cash fare or be in possession of a valid transfer, ticket or pass as proof of payment. On buses, if paying with cash or tickets, you will need to take a transfer from the operator (even if you don’t need a transfer) to show proof of payment, in the event you are asked by a Transit Peace Officer or a member of Edmonton Police Service (EPS). Failure to do so can result in a fine of $250.
