Plan Your Trip Help
ETS Trip Planner
To use the ETS Trip Planner, you will need to provide:
- Your current location
(this can be a Landmark, Bus Stop, Intersection with transit service or Address) - Your destination
(this can be a Landmark, Bus Stop, Intersection with transit service or Address) - Your travel date
- Your departure or arrival time
Choose Current Location
Choose a tab and enter your current location. It can be a Landmark, Bus Stop #, Intersection with transit service or Address. (TIP: Click the ? button to learn how to properly format this information.)
NOTE: Ensure that Caps Lock is turned off when typing.
Landmark
Start typing the first few letters of your landmark and then select an item from the drop down list.
Bus Stop #
Start typing the first few letters of your landmark and then select an item from the drop down list.
Serviced Intersection
Start typing the first few letters or numbers of your serviced intersection and then select an item from the drop down list.
Address
Start typing the first few letters or numbers of your address and then select an item from the drop down list. Please note that the address tab identifies the closest bus stop to the address you provide. This may not be the optimal solution for your trip.
Choose Destination
Choose a tab and enter your desired location. It can be a Landmark, Bus Stop #, Intersection with transit service or Address. (TIP: Click the ? button to learn how to properly format this information.)

Landmark
Start typing the first few letters of your landmark and then select an item from the drop down list.
Bus Stop #
Start typing the first few letters of your landmark and then select an item from the drop down list.
Serviced Intersection
Start typing the first few letters or numbers of your serviced intersection and then select an item from the drop down list.
Address
Start typing the first few letters or numbers of your address and then select an item from the drop down list. Please note that the address tab identifies the closest bus stop to the address you provide. This may not be the optimal solution for your trip.
Choose Departure or Arrival
Click the radio button to indicate whether you want your Trip Plan time to be “Depart At” or “Arrive By”.
Choose Travel Date
Either click the calendar icon to select a date, or enter one in the date field.
- Today’s date is automatically entered in the Trip Planner.
- If you are travelling on a date other than today, enter your date of travel using either the entry field or the calendar provided.
(TIP: Date format is MM/DD/YY)
Choose Travel Time
Select a time from the drop down menus, and then select AM or PM
- Current time is automatically entered in the Trip Planner.
- If you are travelling at a time other than the current time, enter your time of travel using the drop down menus provided.
- (TIP: Use the +/- buttons to increase or decrease the time by 15 minutes)
If you are entering a Trip time that is after midnight, please note that departure times will be noted with the next day's date.
Get Trip Plan
Click the “Get Trip Plan” button to see your results.
NOTE: Trip plans can only be calculated for the current service period. ETS has five service changes a year - in February, April, June, September and December. A minimum of two weeks advance service is available. If service is not available for the date you require, please check back closer to your travel date.
Your Trip Plan Results Help
Once you’ve submitted your information, you’ll see the following information you entered on the previous screen:
- Trip Plan number (use this number to speak with City customer service).
- Current location (“From” information).
- Destination (“To” information).
- Date of your trip.
- Time of your trip.
Trip Plan Results
The Trip Plan Results table presents you with the possible options for your trip, numbered from 1 to 6 (depending on the number of results for your search). Trip Option results are sorted by the shortest "Trip Time" by default. You can update the departure or arrival options and the time of your trip by selecting a new time and hitting the “Update Time” button.
Sort Trip Option(s)
Click any of the underlined titles in the blue bar at the top of the table to sort the Trip Options. You can sort the results by:
- Transfers
- Depart At
- Arrive By
- Trip Time
View all Trip Option(s)
Click the “Expand All” link to view the details of all the Trip Options at once. Once all the Trip Options have opened, click “Collapse All” to close the details.
View Details of a Trip Option
Click the arrow beside the Trip Option number or click “View Details”. To close an option, click the arrow again or click “Close Details”
Detailed trip options will tell you what routes you need to use, where and when to get them, information about bus or LRT connections (transfers) and how long the trip will take you.
(TIP: Be at the bus or LRT stop five minutes before departure, when possible.)
Type
Bus type/features. (for example, L - Low Floor ; B – Low Floor Bus w/ Bike Rack; C - Community Bus)
Route
Specifies a bus or LRT route. This is the route number of the bus or LRT you need to take and will appear on its destination sign.
(TIP: Click the Route number to get the entire route schedule for that date.)
Service Alert Icon
Route may be affected by a service change or detour. Click "Service Alert" link for more detailed information.
Time
Time(s) routes depart or arrive
Locations
Locations of the bus or LRT stop. Locations are given using street and avenue, transit centre or LRT station.

Direction
The direction the bus/route is travelling
Bus Stop
Bus stop number or "LRT". Click on the bus stop number to get bus stop images and a map. The feature bus stop is in the middle of the map in red. The direction of the bus stop is indicated with a red arrow.
Transfer(s)
Details the number of transfer(s) to another bus or LRT, the amount of time you have to walk to the transfer location, your wait time for the next route, and how far away your next bus or train is from where you got off the last route.
Waiting Person
Indicates that you need to wait at the location where you got off the last route.
Walking Person
Indicates that you need to walk to your next transfer location. The ETS Trip Planner uses an average walking speed. If you have a slower walking speed, select a trip option with longer transfer times or shorter transfer distances
“This bus continues service as…”
Route will change to another route number during your trip but it will take you to your destination.
Trip Time
Indicates the total trip time for your trip option in minutes.
View Trip Option Images, Maps and Service Alerts
Each Trip Option allows you to view information about the Bus Route and Bus Stop numbers in the Trip Option. You can view:
- Schedule for the Bus Route
- Images and Maps for the Bus Stop
- Service Alerts
- Map of the entire Trip Option (available for trips within City of Edmonton limits only)

Trip Option Map
You can print your trip option map using the "Print" command in your browser window.
NOTE: Due to a known bug in Mozilla Firefox, you may experience problems printing Trip plans or Trip maps. Please use another browser.
Select a Trip Option(s)
When you’ve decided on the appropriate Trip Option for you, click the “Select” button to choose that Trip Option. The other Trip Options will be removed from the page.
You can always go back to the original results by clicking “Go back to original results”.
Trip Option Details
Regional Transit service is integrated into the ETS Trip Planner. At times, they may appear as an option when planning a trip within the city.
Please Note: Regional Transit Service requires additional fare on top of regular ETS Fare.
Printing Trip Plans
You can print out the Trip Plans by clicking “Print Trip Plans”
