School, work and leisure are just around the corner for every Edmontonian with the accessible services, features and programs offered by Edmonton Transit Service. If you have a mobility challenge, are a senior, use a mobility aid such as walker, scooter, cane or wheelchair - or are unsure about using transit because of mobility difficulties, we have just the program for you!

Mobility Choices Training Program

Due to the COVID-19 situation, we are temporarily suspending mobility training for individuals and groups. Updates will be posted to this page when available. If you have questions, contact the ETS Accessibility Coordinator at 780-496-5788 and leave a message.

About the Program

ETS provides a free, customized travel training program for seniors, persons with disabilities and agencies or organizations that work with persons with mobility challenges. The Mobility Choices Travel Training Program was designed to provide information and instruction about our range of accessible features, services and programs and can include bus and LRT hands-on demonstrations (whenever possible), as well as website orientation, information on customer tools use and trip planning support.  In some instances, companioned travel with an ETS Travel Trainer may also be available for a practice trip.

Edmonton Transit offers Mobility Choices on an individual and group basis. For individuals who wish to learn about using ETS, one-on-one training may be available. For organizations and groups that need on-going training, ETS can also train agency representatives through our "Train the Trainer" program so that they can provide the information to their own clients.  If you are a customer who is planning to purchase a mobility device such as a scooter, wheelchair, or power chair, we may also be able to provide bus orientation with your preferred devices before you purchase them, to ensure they will work on Edmonton Transit buses and the LRT.

Seniors on the Go Program

Due to the COVID-19 situation, we are assessing plans for the Seniors on the Go program, individual and group mobility training.  Updates will be posted to this page when available. If you have questions, contact the ETS Accessibility Coordinator at 780-496-5788 and leave a message.

The ETS Seniors on the Go program is offered annually May through August.  The program is designed to familiarize seniors with their public transit options to help them feel comfortable, confident, and safe using public transit.

Book a Session

If you are interested in a Transit information session for your seniors group September through April, please contact the ETS Accessibility Coordinator at 780-496-3000 to set up a session.

NOTE: 10 business days notice is required for a booking.

Group Orientation

Senior’s residential, recreational and social groups, and organizations that have reasonable access to public transit service and whose members can travel independently are invited to participate in a free hands-on learning session with ETS. They will learn how to plan trips and travel to destinations in their vicinity by taking a sample trip on transit to a local destination.

With potential destinations ranging from libraries and shopping centers to exploring Edmonton landmarks and attending local festivals, our seniors are in for an educational and exciting summer opportunity.

Since the introduction of the program in 2007, this educational and interactive program has benefited more than 5,000 people through over 70 seniors residential, recreational and social sites/groups, activity centres and seniors' groups in Edmonton.

After groups have experienced the transit system first hand from their outing, participants will also have the opportunity to gain a more in-depth understanding of the transit system with our new “Transit Tech Tools” secondary sessions. These sessions will be scheduled on a separate day to help us better understand our participants’ transit experiences while also showcasing the variety of technological customer tools offered by ETS, such as ETS Trip Planner and Live Bus.

Those interested in scheduling a Seniors On the Go outing can get more information and an application package from May through June period when the program is in operation.
