Design and Construction section provides underground infrastructure constructions, primarily sewer and water lines in the City of Edmonton. Other construction activities include telephone ductlines, underground utility corridors, pump stations, storm water outfalls, drainage swales, and rapid transit tunnels.
Besides its work for a number of City departments, Design and Construction has successfully undertaken projects for private developers and worked as sub-contractors to local construction firms.
This section provides a full range of project management services, from concept phase to termination on complex underground infrastructure projects. Design Services uses state-of-the-art methodologies:
- Cost forecasting with neural networks
- Construction simulation for optimizing tunnelling operations
- Relational databases for cost estimating
Design Services controls costs using a custom-built, real time, and cost management system.
