The City has capital programs to renew and enhance Edmonton’s drainage system. These programs protect the environment and the quality of lives of the people who live in our city. These programs align with "The Way We Green" and "The Way We Live" Strategic goals. They allow Utility Services to provide a high level of services to the residents.
Drainage Neighbourhood Renewal – renews and replaces sanitary and storm sewers on neighbourhood basis in coordination with transportation and other utility companies.
Drainage System Rehabilitation – renews and replaces sanitary and storm sewers on city wide basis.
Drainage Facilities Upgrading – renews and upgrades the capacity of the facilities required to support constructing, renewing and upgrading of the drainage system.
Environmental Quality Enhancements – identifies and funds projects that maintain and enhance water quality in the North Saskatchewan River and surrounding watershed.
Flood Prevention – identifies and implements projects that reduce the risk of flooding.
Combined Sewer Overflow Strategy – reduces the amount of Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) to the North Saskatchewan River when runoff from rain or snow overloads the system.
Sanitary Sewer Servicing Strategy – facilitates development in undeveloped areas and redevelopment in mature neighbourhoods by construction of sanitary trunk sewers.
Drainage System Expansion – supports planned and orderly urban growth in partnership with developers and the general public.
