Each school board annually identifies its need for new schools in its 3-year capital plan, and forwards these priorities to the Alberta government as a request for capital support. A school is built when the school board receives approval and funding.

The Joint Use Agreement provides a framework for the City and school boards to work together to operate joint school and park sites.
