Thank you to the 265 people who attended the Food in the City conference, a celebration of the innovative and groundbreaking work being done in our city to help build a resilient local food system.
Food in the City, held May 25-26, 2012, was an opportunity for Edmontonians to participate in a conversation about the future of food and agriculture in Edmonton.
Participants were able to able to learn about food and agriculture issues that affect them, heard from local experts about food and agriculture initiatives in Edmonton, talked to other people interested in food and agriculture issues, played a part in promoting Edmonton as a leader in innovative municipal food and agriculture policy and initiatives, and heard details of the work done to date on a food and agriculture strategy (including research findings on food and agriculture opportunities for Edmonton and feedback so far from stakeholder consultations).
- Keynote speaker – Wayne Roberts, author of The No-Nonsense Guide to World Food and former manager of the Toronto Food Policy Council
- Local experts lead discussions on food and agriculture issues related to the following themes:
- a stronger, more vibrant local economy;
- a healthier, more food-secure community;
- healthier ecosystems;
- less energy, emissions and waste;
- more vibrant, attractive and unique places.
- A fabulous “Taste of Alberta” evening reception was held on Friday and a delicious buffet luncheon on Saturday, both featuring locally sourced fare.
