Edmonton Elections wants to ensure that all eligible voters have the opportunity to vote, no matter what their circumstances. That’s why more advance vote hours are being offered this election than ever before.

If you are unable to cast your ballot at your neighbourhood voting station on October 21, you can take advantage of the 10 full days of advance voting running from October 8-12 and 15-19, 2013 at City Hall and at voting stations in the four quadrants of the City.

You can also vote by Special (Mail-in) Ballot if you are unable to make it to an Advance Vote or Election Day voting station due to physical incapacitation, being absent from the city, or because you are a candidate, scrutineer, candidate’s official agent or an election worker.

    What to Expect

    Casting Your Ballot

    Voting Register

Upon arrival at the voting station, you will be required to complete a Voting Register confirming your eligibility to vote in this election and to provide one piece of identification confirming both your name and current residential address.

    Voting

After completing the voting register and showing authorized identification, you will be issued a ballot in a secrecy sleeve. The secrecy sleeve helps ensure that each person's vote remains private and confidential.

To vote, you will take the ballot to the voting booth and fill in the oval beside the name of the candidates you are voting for.

    You may vote for:
    • 1 candidate for Chief Elected Official (Mayor),
    • 1 candidate running in your ward for Councillor,
    • 1 candidate running in your ward for School District Trustee

    Depositing the Ballot

Either you or the election worker will deposit the ballot into the vote tabulator.  At no point in this process will your vote be visible.

    Voters with Special Needs

All voting stations are wheelchair accessible.

    Advance Vote

All advance vote locations will offer voters with special needs the opportunity to vote independently using an AutoMARK, which is an electronic ballot marking device.

    Election Day

    • Election Workers will be on hand at all voting stations to provide assistance to voters who request it.
    • Eligible voters who are patients in Active-Treatment Hospitals on Election Day will have the opportunity to vote at their Hospital Voting Station. Posters in the hospitals will advise the location of the voting station and the times of operation.

    Special (Mail-in) Ballots

You can vote using a Special (Mail-in) Ballot if you are unable to attend at an Advance Vote or Election Day voting station due to physical incapacitation, being absent from the city, or because you are an election worker, a candidate, scrutineer or candidate's official agent.

    Seniors' Accommodation Facilities Voting

On October 16 and 17, Edmonton Elections will set up on-site voting stations at facilities that are home to seniors with acute medical and mobility challenges who are unable to get to regular voting stations.

    Election Results

Starting at approximately 8:30pm on Election Night, unofficial election results will be available at edmonton.ca/electionresults. Results will be updated on an ongoing basis until all voting stations have reported their results. It is anticipated that all results will be reported by 11pm.

Official results will be posted the Friday following Election Day (October 25th). The official results will be posted on the City's website and can also be viewed at:
