UN Women Safe Cities and Safe Public Spaces Initiative

In 2016, The City partnered with Alberta Status of Women to join the United Nations Women Safe Cities and Safe Public Spaces Global Initiative to address sexual violence against women and girls in public spaces.

Currently, the initiative is undergoing research to fully understand the issues specific to Edmonton to address sexual violence against women. From there a committee, which will include representation from the community, will be created to help guide the development of an implementation plan.

These evidence-based priorities will inform the work of a community advisory committee, which will be established in the coming months. The community advisory committee will identify opportunities for action and recommendations for change.
