Pine tree seedlingAre you looking for a flexible, small group volunteer opportunity? Self-guided volunteer shifts are designed for groups of 2-9 people. Plant when it is convenient for you! All public health directions must be followed while volunteering.

Root for Trees provides:

  • Up to 100 native seedlings
  • Up to 9 shovels and pairs of gloves
  • A container to transport materials
  • A safety and planting tips pamphlet outlining safety practices and planting techniques and standards
  • Other safety related materials

Materials must be picked up from our office and returned within one week of your scheduled planting shift.

Volunteer Information

Mandatory Training

The volunteer leader (main contact at time of registration) must complete the training modules and competency checks before picking up the planting kit. Training must be completed no later than one week before the scheduled shift. 

Date

Placeholders are scheduled on Mondays for self-guided shifts. Following the selected Monday, a planting kit pick-up time will be arranged. You will have one week to complete the planting and return the kit to our office. 

Time

Whenever your schedule allows, provided that it falls between 8am and 8pm.

Location

You choose the location that is most convenient for you. A selected location is required within 48 hours of requesting a volunteer shift.

Expected Attendance

Help us plan for your volunteer shift. An expected attendance number is required within 48 hours of requesting a volunteer shift.

The minimum group size is 2 in order to participate. A maximum group size of 9 can be accommodated.

Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Gloves, supplied by Root for Trees
  • Sturdy, closed-toe footwear such as runners, supplied by the volunteer
