100 in a Day - Edmonton 2017 - Transform your city on June 3

Wow! We saw the best of what Edmonton has to offer on June 3!

Together with Make Something Edmonton we are again very grateful to everyone that participated in 100in1Day.

With so many projects happening we couldn’t get to all of them but we tried! Our team travelled to more than half of the projects and had too much fun to put into words.

We saw hula hoops, lemonade stands, block parties, art installations, bike rides, quilting festivals, dancing, water balloons, and much more.

What Is 100in1Day?

100in1Day is a global festival of civic engagement! 100in1Day encourages individuals, communities or other groups to take part in simple, temporary, fun placemaking projects on with the goal of getting 100 projects in one day. This event provides a chance for Edmontonians to share their love for their city by participating in small projects that spark conversation and create inviting places. 100in1Day was presented by CITYlab and Make Something Edmonton in 2016, and again in 2017!

100in1Day 2016 Evaluation - This report documents and evaluates the success of the inaugural 100in1Day Edmonton and is a first step in understanding the cumulative impact of citizen-led placemaking projects in Edmonton.

What's an Urban Intervention?

Tactical urbanism, pop-up urbanism, urban interventions, and temporary placemaking
are four different ways of describing the same thing. It usually involves taking an underused or ignored space like an alleyway, street corner or vacant lot and giving it a fun, temporary, low-cost makeover. It’s a way of getting people excited about how public spaces can become much more inviting places to gather and spend time. It’s vital that we work together with multiple communities (geographic, interest-based, business, and others) to make an attractive and sustainable city by engaging with these ideas and putting them into practice.
