The Historic Plaques and Recognition Award Committee selects individuals, organizations, communities, buildings and historic sites to receive awards at the annual Edmonton Historical Board Plaque and Recognition Awards Ceremony.
Historical Plaque Awards
Since 1974, the Edmonton Historical Board has placed interpretive plaques on buildings, building fragments, and sites of historical significance in the Edmonton area.
Previous buildings and sites recognized with plaques include: McCauley School, Strathcona Library, Highlands Community and the John Walter House.
Since 1975, the City of Edmonton has given awards to individuals and groups that have played a major role in Edmonton's development, or who have played an important role in preserving or promoting some aspect of Edmonton's heritage.
Previous award recipients include Linda Goyette, Paula Simons, Tommy Banks, Legacy Magazine, the Muslim Pioneers of Edmonton, and the Fort Edmonton Foundation.
