2013 Operating Budget
The City of Edmonton delivers programs and services necessary to maintain and enhance our high standard of living.
Roads and public transit that move people; police, bylaws and fire rescue services to keep people safe; parks, waste management and drainage to keep our communities clean and healthy; social programs and leisure activities to make Edmonton a great place in which to live, work and visit. These are some of the core services Edmontonians require their local government to provide.
The City Budget identifies the costs for these services and the sources of revenue to pay for the services, including property taxes and user fees.
2013 Approved Budget (as of December 11, 2012)
The Approved 2013 Operating Budget results in an overall 3.3% increase in the property tax levy – 2.3% for civic programs, boards and commissions and 1.0% to continue to build the fund.
The approved budgets for City-managed utilities result in a rate increase of $1.00 per month for sanitary drainage, $0.75 per month for stormwater drainage and $2.17 per month for waste management.
In 2012, a house worth $364,000 paid $1,797 in municipal tax. A 3.3% increase means a $119 increase for the year, or $9.92 a month for households on the monthly payment plan.
