The City is responsible for being accountable and transparent when reporting to Edmontonians on financial results, operating and capital budgets, the economy, the City’s credit rating and significant City accomplishments.
The City has consistently received awards for financial transparency, including the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Award for 22 years, the GFOA award for Popular Reporting for the last 8 years and the Canadian Award for Financial Report for 28 consecutive years.

This credit rating is important for the City and Edmontonians because it confirms that the City has the capacity to meet its financial commitments. Maintaining a high-quality credit rating gives the City access to lower long-term borrowing costs to help pay for some of its construction projects.
