The eyes of the world will be on Edmonton on July 20 and 21, 2019 as the ITU World Triathlon Edmonton returns to William Hawrelak Park. This highly prestigious, international event will feature world-class athletes from around the globe.

ITU Triathlon Festival

Come for the race and stay for the party! Take a walk through the sport and lifestyle expo, choose from a variety of tasty food vendors, and quench your thirst in the family-friendly Brewster Beer Garden, while the kids play in the kidzone. Then test your strength and endurance in the new mobile FitSet Ninja Warrior obstacle course. Admission is free!

Best Places to Watch

There are 11 exhilarating events to watch over 2 spectacular days of racing. Check the schedule for race times. Spectators can stay in the park and cheer on the athletes from the comfort of the grandstand, or venture out on the bicycle and running courses to get a closer look at their favourite triathletes.

Road Closures and Traffic Delays

A number of road closures will be in effect from Saturday July 20 to Sunday July 21 to ensure the safety of competitors, volunteers and spectators. Motorists are urged to plan ahead to avoid driving delays.

Major travel delays can be expected around Hawrelak Park and the University of Alberta. Be aware of Groat Road Bridges and Road Renewal Project in the area. Use Whitemud Drive, Low Level Bridge, 109 Street, Walterdale Bridge and River Valley Road as alternate routes.

Park Access

William Hawrelak Park

William Hawrelak Park will be closed to vehicles from 5am on Saturday July 20 to 6pm on Sunday July 21.

Emily Murphy Park

Due to road closures, there will be limited or no access in or out of Emily Murphy Park on the following dates and times: ​

  • Saturday July 20, from 5am–7pm 

  • Sunday July 21, from 5am–6pm

Buena Vista Foot Bridge

Due to the event schedule, access over the Buena Vista foot bridge may be delayed momentarily to allow athletes to pass.  

Parking

Parking is not available at Hawrelak Park or Emily Murphy Park. Paid spectator parking is available at the University of Alberta's Windsor Car Park (located at 116 Street and 92 Avenue). 

Parking is not permitted on the course. A number of meters will be hooded. Please obey all signs, as illegally parked vehicles will be tagged and towed.

Free ETS Shuttle Service

Free shuttle service will be available to and from Hawrelak Park during the ITU World Triathlon Edmonton. 

Paid spectator parking is available at the University of Alberta's Windsor Car Park

Take the LRT to University or Health Sciences/Jubilee LRT Stations and walk to the shuttle stop at Windsor Car Park. 

Saturday July 20
Shuttle buses will run approximately every 10 minutes between Windsor Car Park (116 Street and 92 Avenue) and Hawrelak Park during these times:

      ●  5–6:45am
      ●  2–3pm
      ●  6:40–8:40pm

Sunday July 21
Shuttle buses will run approximately every 10 minutes between Windsor Car Park (116 Street and 92 Avenue) and Hawrelak Park during these times:

      ●  5–6:45am
      ●  12:45–1:45pm
      ●  6–8pm

Bicycles

Why not ride your bike to Hawrelak Park? Bring a lock and park your bike in the bike compound. Spectators can stay in the park to watch the action, or venture out on the bicycle and running course to get a closer look at your favourite triathletes.

Taxis and Private Shuttles

Due to the event road closures, all taxis and private shuttles can drop off and pick up from the Windsor Car Park.  All guests may use the Windsor Car Park free shuttle to access Hawrelak Park.
