Participating Facilities

Edmonton Valley Zoo

13315 Buena Vista Road & 87th Avenue

There is lots to see and do at the Zoo.

Note: All activities run from 10am-5pm unless otherwise specified, and the ones listed are just a sample. 

Music in the Plaza

While visiting the Plaza on your way in, or out of the zoo, stop by our Live Musical Entertainment featuring Six Feet Up! Take in one of their 30 minute sets starting at the top off each hour (11am, 12 noon, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4 pm).

Sky Magic

Come join us in the EdVenture Lodge for a magic show with Sky Magic. Show times are 10:30am, 11:30am, 12:30pm, 1:30pm, 2:30pm and 3:30pm.

Red Panda Touch Table and Activity Station

Location: Red Pandas Enclosure
Stop by and learn about how the Zoo is participating in the Red Panda’s Species Survival Plan. 

Adventure Bus

Location: Meltwater Play
Jump on the bus for some zip lining, ball pit and many more interactive activities! 

Endangered Animals Table

Location: Four Winds Plaza
One of our interpreters will be set up so you can 'Get Closer' and learn more about how zoos are helping save animals around the world! 

Fort Edmonton Park

Admission is free, but there is a nominal cost for tickets for the Midway rides/games. Additionally, the Pony Rides and Steam Train will not be running on Free Admission Day.

John Walter Museum

There are lots of things to see and do at the John Walter Museum!

Note: All activities run from 1-4pm and the ones listed are just a sample.

Canning & Preserving with Naomi Pah

Learn how to prepare a simple brine for pickling in our historic 1886 home. Operation Fruit Rescue Edmonton (OFRE) will provide literature and signage to share as well. 

Tasty Treats

Jam will be prepared in our historic 1901 home for guests by an interpreter.

Craft

Make an autumn-themed craft in our historic 1875 home while supplies last.

Honey and Winterizing your Bees with Dustin Bajer

Watch as a local beekeeper extracts honey and talks about how bees survive the winter. He will also give an overview of how beekeepers historically kept bees in Alberta. Samples will be shared with guests.

Public Interpretation

Who was John Walter and why is Walterdale important to Edmonton? Drop-in tours run throughout the day. Go on a walk across the Walterdale bridge to see the river, Rossdale and the Legislature/original Fort Edmonton site. 

John Janzen Nature Centre

These activities are just some of what happens at the John Janzen Nature Centre on Free Admission Day 2017, so you can expect a full day of fun!

Muttart Conservatory

There is lots to see and do at the Muttart Conservatory!

Plant Pot Creation and Seed Planting

Make a small eco-friendly pot from newspaper, use your imagination to transform it into an artistic masterpiece, then pop in some soil and the nasturtium plant seed. Take home your creation, add water and enjoy your Muttart potted planted for weeks to come!

Indoor Display Tables

Take a peek at the displays from: Cactus & Succulent Society, Alberta Regional Lily Society, African Violet Society, and the Orchid Species Preservation Foundation.

Line Entertainment

Stuck in line? No problem! We’ve got lots of line entertainment to keep the time (and line) moving! Joe (puppeteer) and Mugsy (strolling juggling/magic/unicycling/streamer) will be on site from Clown Cartel!

Edmonton Public Library

EPL will be in attendance to talk about all the fun programming that happens at their facilities, as well as allowing people to sign-up for memberships. Stop by and have a chat with them out in the Muttart Conservatory’s court yard.

The Oasis of the Pyramids

The jewel of the River Valley, the pyramids, are the highlight of any trip to Muttart and are 40 years old this year. The current Feature Pyramid Display is all about the Curse of the Chrysanthemummies. So take a moment and view the wonderful displays and all the wild and wonderful plants we have to offer.
