Family Fun in City Hall & Churchill Square
City Hall is the place to be for all of your Family Day fun! Enjoy performances by the Mattierin Irish Dancers, the Wajjo African Drummers, and a Concrete Theatre/ L’Unithéâtre production of the play Bello. The fun will continue with Canada 150 giveaways, crafts, and much more! Venture outside to check out the Family Day activities on the Square, including free skate rentals*, hayrides and bannock-making. Food trucks will be on site.
New for 2017! Edmontonians of all ages and skill levels are invited to paint tiles that will be joined together to create two large murals designed by Canadian artists as part of the Canada 150 Mural Mosaic Project.

Family Day Unplugged
The City of Edmonton is proud to support Family Day Unplugged, an initiative that encourages Edmontonians to take a break from technology and spend quality time with their most important social network – their family! Examples of unplugged activities include a family board game, baking together or participating in one of the many events happening throughout the city.
Edmonton Valley Zoo
Bundle up your family, beat the winter blues and "Get Closer" for some Family Day fun! Stay warm while you visit the Polar Bear craft table or participate in the Animal Families scavenger hunt. Learn why Edmonton Valley Zoo is an Arctic Ambassador Centre for Polar Bears International and visit our free photo booth to take home a family memory. New this year, try out our Discovery Agents app with a special Family Day Mission!

Upcycle at the Reuse Centre
Celebrate Family Day at the Reuse Centre. Participate in reuse crafting, facility tours, scavenger hunts and more. Families are encouraged to look around the store for puzzles, games, movies or books to bring home to enjoy with the whole family!

Family Day at the Legislature
A day of free family fun awaits indoors at the . Enjoy live music and magic performances, join the Lost in the Legislature History Hunt, take part in Indigenous games and crafts, build a replica Legislature Building in the Lego Zone, learn a few tricks of the trade at a clown workshop and more!

Silver Skate Festival
Embrace winter at the Silver Skate Festival, a free family-friendly winter celebration in Hawrelak Park blending sport, recreation, arts and culture, showcasing various skating disciplines and promoting outdoor activities. Free weekend shuttle service. Visit for details.

Head down to Hawrelak Park to experience the awesome beauty of Ice Castles - a two-acre winter wonderland comprised of more than 20,000 icicles embedded with thousands of colourful LED lights. This hand-crafted, fairy tale-like structure features a throne room, a fountain, a winding ice maze, and an ice slide. Visit the Ice Castles website for tickets and hours of operation.
Snowy streets, where new friends meet… at the Shake-up Festival!
Free family fun on the Armature (96 Street between Jasper Avenue and 103 Avenue). Featuring sleigh rides, hot chocolate, bannock-making and more. Come and celebrate in the core!

Enjoy unlimited all-day travel and transfers for one adult and up to four children (ages 12 and under) with an ETS Day Pass for only $9.50. On Family Day, buses and LRT operate on Saturday schedules, with modified schedules on some routes:
- Routes 25, 26, 77, 164, 168, 195, 198, 331, 333 and 381 operate on weekday schedules.
- Route 315 operates with reduced weekday schedules.
- Route 137 operates during peak times only, for every 30 minutes.
Regular ETS fares apply.
