Plan ahead as thousands of racers take to Edmonton streets for the Servus Edmonton Marathon.

On Sunday August 20, thousands of racers will take to the streets in Downtown Edmonton as marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K walk/run routes start downtown and wind through several of Edmonton’s historic and scenic neighbourhoods.

Road Closures and Traffic Delays

Saturday August 19
Full closure of Jasper Avenue between 97-99 Street all day. Use 102 Avenue as an alternate route.

Sunday August 20
The race routes start and end at the Shaw Conference Centre (97 Street and Jasper Avenue), causing a full closure of Jasper Avenue between 97-109 Street from 5am-8pm.

Partial road closures downtown will be on 111 Street, 103 Avenue, 124 Street, 102 Aveune including the bridge, and 142 Street. Expect major traffic delays Downtown and west to 142 Street, between 5am-3pm.

Additional partial closures: 

  • Last of Downtown on Jasper Avenue, 82 Street, 112 Avenue, 76 Street, 110 Avenue, 75 Street, Ada Boulevard, 40 Street, 105 Avenue, 30 Street, 111 Avenue and 32 Street.
  • South west on St. George’s Crescent, Ravine Drive, Summit Drive, Riverside Drive, Valleyview Drive, Valleyview Crescent, 137 Street, 95 Avenue, 87 Avenue and 140 Street.

Crossing the Route
Expect major traffic delays Downtown and west to 142 Street between 5am-3pm. The longest delays crossing the route will be heading north and south across:

  • Jasper Avenue between 109-111 Street
  • 103 Avenue between 111-124 Street
  • 102 Avenue between 124-135 Street

Course marshals and police officers will be at intersections to assist with traffic crossings when a break in the runners safely allows, but this may take over an hour.

Suggested Alternative Routes 
To detour around the race route, use 104 Avenue, 107 Avenue, River Valley Road, Groat Road, or 75 St/Wayne Gretzky Drive. 

Parking

Parking restrictions on the event route start on Saturday, August 19 at 6am. Illegally parked cars will be ticketed and towed.

Weekend rates at downtown parkades and meters are available. Please obey all posted signs.

Neighbourhood Access

Many areas of the race routes will allow local access only. Plan ahead and expect delays.

Impacts to neighbourhoods Downtown east of Shaw Conference Centre will end by 11am. Impacts to neighbourhoods Downtown west of Shaw Conference Centre will end by 3pm.

Planned Detours:  

  • August 19 and 20, all day: Route 2, 3, 5, 100

  • August 20, 5am-3pm: Route 1, 7, 8, 9, 15, 57, 130, 140, 141, 142, 151
