Edmonton hosted the inaugural Cities and Climate Change Science Conference March 5-7, 2018.

The conference was co-sponsored by the Cities IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), part of the United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

The conference welcomed more than 800 municipal representatives, scientists and academics from around the world to share the latest scientific research on climate change, and inspire global and regional action within cities to address this complex issue.

The idea for a conference focusing on cities and climate change was born at COP22 (United Nations Climate Change Conference), which was attended by Mayor Don Iveson in 2016.
