Fun on the Square
Sit and relax, take in the gardens and artwork, take advantage of free WiFi access and enjoy food from a variety of vendors. Enjoy free weekday programming (Monday to Friday) by the Edmonton Arts Council that includes large format chess and checkers, along with table tennis and basketball. Activities are available Monday to Friday between 11am and 1pm.
Check out Happy Wall, an interactive pixel art installation. Created by Copenhagen artist Thomas Dambo, Happy Wall is 17 metres long and covered with 1,040 coloured panels of reclaimed wood that can be flipped to create images or phrases. It’s fun. It’s colourful. So come on down and create something unique, take a photo and share with the hashtag #HappyWall!
Eat and Shop
There are also several eateries located around the Square including: Three Bananas Cafe (South Pavilion), L'Espresso Cafe (main floor Chancery Hall), City Centre Food Court, Normand's (The Citadel) and The Hallway Cafe (main floor City Hall).
TIX on the Square Box Office and Store, the not-for-profit community box office and store owned and operated by the Edmonton Arts Council, is a source for locally made artwork , CDs, books (featuring regional artists) and tickets to local music, theatre and dance events. Stop in to purchase that special gift.
Festivals and Events on the Square
Please Note: Throughout 2018, the Square will be impacted by Valley Line LRT construction and the Civic Precinct Surface and City Hall Fountain Rehabilitation but remains open to the public. During these construction updates, a number of larger, multi-day festivals, such as The Works Art and Design Festival, Edmonton International Street Performers Festival, Taste of Edmonton and Cariwest, are being temporarily relocated.
