Join us outside for some outdoor fitness. The weekly schedule offers something for everyone, in a variety of greenspaces adjacent to four Community Recreation Center Sites and four Major River Valley Parks. See all locations.

There will be a total of 50 classes offered per week for 15 weeks, which will be led by your favourite City of Edmonton Certified Fitness Instructors.

Outdoor Fitness Schedule

All classes require registration in advance so that we can ensure a safe and high-quality program. Physical distancing will be in place at all times. All other Alberta Health Services guidelines will be strictly followed.

Cancellation Policy

  • Participants can cancel (remove their registration from a class), with no penalty, up to four hours prior to the start of the class time. Participants must call 311 to cancel their registration. Participants who cancel (remove their registration from a class) within 4 hours of the start of the class time will be charged a $5 cancellation fee.
  • The City of Edmonton may cancel classes due to inclement weather
    • Participants will be notified, via email, a minimum of two hours prior to class start time if inclement weather occurs more than two hours prior to class
    • The instructor will determine if the class will be cancelled if the inclement weather occurs between the two-hour window prior to class up until the end of the class
    • Refunds will automatically be put on the participant’s City of Edmonton account in these instances

Outdoor Fitness Programs

Get back into shape while socially distancing with our new outdoor fitness classes! Choose from your favourites: Strength, Bootcamp, Older Adult, Yoga and Zumba.

Before You Visit

  • Please do not attend our outdoor fitness program if you: 
    • are feeling ill and/or experiencing any of the following symptoms: cough, fever, shortness of breath, runny nose or sore throat
    • have experienced any of the above symptoms in the last 10 days
    • have, within the last 14 days, returned home from travel outside of Canada or been in contact with someone who has traveled outside of Canada and tested positive for COVID-19
  • Participants are required to register in advance for all outdoor classes. Anyone that is not registered will not be allowed to participate. Register through MoveLearnPlay or by calling 311.
  • Registration will open two weeks prior to the class. Participants must provide an email address when registering. 
  • Registration will be available up until two hours prior to the start of class
  • Schedule is subject to change

Class Set-Up

  • Participants should bring their own yoga mat or towel for all classes (except Zumba)
  • Participants should bring their own labelled water bottle, sunscreen and bug spray, and wear clothes appropriate for the weather
  • Participants must maintain social distancing throughout the class
    • Individual ground stations will be spaced with a minimum of 6 feet between each other
    • Trainers/Instructors will remind and monitor social distancing in group activities not being performed at your individual station
  • There will be no shared equipment
  • For Strength and Conditioning classes, participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment (such as bands or dumbbells)
  • For Yoga classes, participants are encouraged to bring their own props (such as a strap and blocks)
  • Any fitness equipment used will be sanitized by a City of Edmonton staff after each use
  • When arriving for class, please arrive a maximum of 20 minutes early
    • Upon arrival, check in with the Instructor
    • Find a spot and get yourself set up; avoid clustering in groups
    • Please arrive early enough to ensure that class can start on time

Health and Safety Measures

  • Participants should wash their hands prior to heading out to class and again as soon as possible following class
  • The use of individual antibacterial hand sanitizer that is at least 60% alcohol is recommended 
  • You are encouraged to bring your own alcohol-based sanitizer
  • Washrooms and change rooms may not be available on location
  • Personal items should not be shared
  • Bring your own water bottle
  • A sweat towel is recommended to help avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with your hands
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or into your elbow when coughing or sneezing
  • Do not spit 
  • While we want to foster a positive environment and for you to encourage your fellow fitness classmates, please do not high-five them and ensure you are always respecting their personal space

How early should I arrive?

Please arrive early enough for class to start on time but no earlier than 20 minutes.

What do I need to bring?

Proof of registration (e-mail or printed copy), yoga mat or towel, hand sanitizer, sweat towel, clothing for the elements, sunscreen, bug spray, water bottle and hat. 

Can I register through 311?

Yes, registration is available through both online via MoveLearnPlay and by calling 311. 

Will there be hand sanitizer stations on site?

Yes, hand sanitizer with 60% alcohol or higher will be provided.

Will I have access to washrooms or change rooms?

Unfortunately, washrooms and change rooms may not be available on location.

What happens if there is a COVID-19 exposure while I am visiting?

In the unlikely event that this does happen, the City of Edmonton will work with Alberta Health Services to ensure all proper processes and protocols are followed.

What if I have a City of Edmonton Recreation Centre Membership?

Outdoor Fitness Classes are included in Recreation Centre Memberships. For more information about memberships, visit edmonton.ca/reccentres.

My plans have changed. How do I cancel my class?

Please call 311 to cancel a class or email myaccount@edmonton.ca please be advised that this email will not be monitored on the weekend, so it may take a few days to receive a response.

What is the City doing to ensure the AHS’s guidelines are followed for COVID-19 precautions?

Each instructor will have a COVID-19 update in their First Aid training in the case of an emergency. They will also have hand sanitizer and other PPE on site. The instructors will ensure everyone is practicing physical distancing at all times. Registration is completed online, so no contact is needed.  

When Rec Centers open, can I use my membership for Outdoor Fitness Programs?

After July 6th, Recreation Centre memberships (including staff discounted memberships) will include outdoor fitness at Recreation Centre sites (and we will add Jasper Place and Kinsmen Sports Centre). The remaining four major parks will continue to be single admission pricing.
