Super 3's

Ages: 3 years

This is an unparented program for children 3 years of age. Through structured games children explore the aquatic atmosphere becoming safe around a swimming pool under the guidance of a Red Cross Certified Water Safety Instructor. Activities may include submersion, floats, glides, entrances and exits from the pool, and water safety education.


4 & 5 Year-Old Beginner

Ages: 4 & 5 years

This is the 1st level of an unparented program for children a minimum of 4 years-old. Assisted and unassisted floating on the front and back, jumping in, to the instructor, and work with a personal floatation device (PFD) in a structured games atmosphere.


4 & 5 Year-Old - Advanced/Enriched

Ages: 4-5 years

This class is a combination of the 4&5 Advanced and Enriched levels. The students will progress based on their demonstration of the skills.

Advanced: This is an unparented program. Front and back swim for 5 metres, jump in and surface support in deep water, underwater swims and side glides are explored in a structured games atmosphere. Children should be able to submerge under water for 5 seconds.

Enriched: This is an uparented program for children approximately 5 years of age. Swims up to 10 metres, side glides with flutter kick for 3 metres, deep water surface support are examples of topics covered.


Swim Kids Level 1

Ages: 6+ years

This is an entry level for children ready to move in shallow water. This level provides an orientation to the water and pool area and introduces floats and glides with kicks. Children build their endurance by improving distance.


Swim Kids Level 2

Ages: 6+ years

This level helps the child build skills in front and back swims. Children are introduced to deep water activities and proper use of a personal floatation device (PFD). Endurance is built on flutter kicking with assisted glides.


Swim Kids Level 3

Ages: 6+ years

This level provides an introduction to front crawl as well as a foundation for making wise choices on where and when to swim. Diving is introduced and children will work on floats and changing direction. Endurance is achieved by building strength in flutter kick and a 15 metre swim.


Swim Kids Level 4

Ages: 6+ years

The front crawl, back glide, and shoulder roll for back crawl are further developed. Children work on kneeling dives, surface support and developing a greater sense of self safety by understanding their own limits. Endurance is built through the 25 metre swim.


Swim Kids Level 5

Ages: 6+ years

Back crawl is introduced, along with sculling skills and whip kick on the back. Children try striding dives, and receive an introduction to safe boating skills. Endurance is developed through dolphin kick and a 50 metre swim.


Swim Kids Level 6

Ages: 6+ years

Front crawl and back crawl continue to be refined as the elementary back stroke is newly introduced. Children are also introduced to safety on ice, elementary rescue of others with throwing assists, treading water, and the front dive. Endurance is built through as 75 metre swim.


Swim Kids Level 7

Ages: 6+ years

Continues to build skills for front crawl, back crawl, and elementary back stroke, and introduces whip kick on the front. Children learn about airway and breathing obstructions, and participate in timed treading water for increased endurance. Endurance is built through timed treading water and a 150 metre swim.


Swim Kids Level 8

Ages: 6+ years

Provides and introduction to the breast stroke, foot first surface dives, and rescue entries. Children learn about the dangers of open water, hypothermia, and the performance of rescue breathing on adults and children. Endurance is built on dolphin kick and a 300 metre swim.


Swim Kids Level 9

Ages: 6+ years

Front crawl, back crawl, elementary back stroke, and breast stroke continue to be refined. In this level children are encouraged to try combining different strokes and kicks for fitness. They also work on head-first surface dives and standing dives and learn about wise choices, peer influences, and self-rescue from ice. Endurance is built through a 400 metre swim.


Swim Kids Level 10

Ages: 6+ years

Further refinement of strokes, with an introduction to butterfly and scissor kick as a warm-up/cool down stroke for fitness. Children learn about sun safety, rescue of others from the ice, and head- first/feet-first surface dives. Endurance is built using dolphin kick and butterfly drills and a 500 metre swim.
