Red Cross Assistant Water Safety Instructor

Ages: 15+ years

This course introduces candidates to the foundation of instructional skill by focusing on the theoretical knowledge that supports learning and teaching. This course guides the knowledge and skill needed to become an AWSI, by focusing on teaching methods, learning styles, physical principles, progressions, communication, safety supervision and feedback.

100% attendance is mandatory for completion of this course.

Prerequisites: Candidates must have the ability to perform Red Cross Swim Kids 10 strokes and skills. Candidates must be 15-years or older to enter the program.

First Aid Courses

The Standard First Aid course provides comprehensive training in first aid and CPR. This course is for those who want an in-depth understanding of first aid such as medical/legal aspects, spinal injuries, heat or cold injuries, bone and joint injuries, and other medical emergencies. Course includes CPR 'C' certification.

Price includes manual and exam fees.

Lifesaving Instructor

Ages: 16+ years

Lifesaving Instructors are trained to teach and evaluate the Canadian Lifesaving Program. Topics include approaches to teach water rescue, first aid, and aquatic skills in the lifesaving program.

Prerequisites: Current Bronze Cross or higher and 16 years-old or older.

National Lifeguard and Aquatic Emergency Care

Ages: 16+ years

National Lifeguard Service (NLS) is recognized as the standard measurement in lifeguard performance in Canada. NLS is designed to develop an understanding of lifeguard principles, good judgment, and a mature responsible attitude towards the role of a lifeguard.

Aquatic Emergency Care (AEC) is designed to provide the candidate with the first aid skills, knowledge, judgment, and confidence to provide medical assistance to anyone in need.

Prerequisites: Bronze Cross, a current Standard First Aid award, and 16 years-old or older.

Red Cross Water Safety Instructor

Ages: 16+ years

This course prepares candidates to instruct the Red Cross Swim Kids program. Candidates focus on strategies to introduce and develop swimming and water safety skills in the Red Cross Swim Kids, preschool, and adult program curriculums. The course is 25 hours in duration and includes an additional 12 hour practicum.

Prerequisites: Assistant Water Safety Instructor, and 16-years or older by course completion.

100% attendance is mandatory for completion of course.
