- Be cautious crossing at intersections and watch for vehicles turning
Traffic Safety Enforcement
Pedestrian Right of Way
The Traffic Safety Act stipulates that vehicles must yield to pedestrians in most cases.
Drivers who fail to yield to a pedestrian will be ticketed and fined $575.
Jaywalking
According to the Traffic Bylaw, pedestrians may only cross a roadway within a crosswalk, including any intersection connecting sidewalks, curbs or edges of the road.
Pedestrians must obey all traffic signs and control devices when crossing the road.
Pedestrians who jaywalk, meaning they cross outside of a crosswalk or against traffic lights, will be ticketed and fined $250.
