Whitemud Drive Widening - 75 Street/66 Street to 17 Street
Year two of this two-year project kicked off in May 2016, with construction from 17 Street to 50 Street. This two-year project began in 2015 and is scheduled for completion in fall 2016. The section of Whitemud Drive between 50 Street and 75 Street was completed in 2015.
About the Project
In 2015-16, the City will widen Whitemud Drive to six lanes from 75 Street/66 Street to 17 Street and build an auxiliary lane between the 66 Street and 50 Street ramps. The added lanes will be constructed over the existing grassed median and a concrete median barrier will be added.
Increased traffic volumes have created congestion on Whitemud Drive between 75 Street/66 Street and 17 Street. The City will widen the current four-lane roadway to meet greater traffic demands and maintain roadway safety.
In addition to roadway widening, the project includes:
- Upgrading the drainage catchment system to service a wider roadway
- Replacing and updating boulevard streetlights
- Rehabilitating the existing road surface
- Assessing and mitigating any possible environmental impacts around the Mill Creek Ravine
- Creating enhanced access for heavy load carriers with a crossover
- Updating roadside and overhead signage
