Scona Road Widening and 99 Street Rehabilitation
About the Project - Scona Road Widening
The City of Edmonton has completed the construction to widen Scona Road, from Saskatchewan Drive to the Low Level Bridge. This widening will improve the roadway by adding an additional lane southbound and will include repairs to the sidewalk, curb and gutter as well as the addition of several streetscape elements.

Construction Included:
- Reconstruction and rehabilitation of pavement and curb/gutter on Scona Road northbound (from Saskatchewan Drive to Connors Road) and Scona Road northbound (from Saskatchewan Drive to Low Level Bridge).
- Radius improvements along Scona Road immediately south of Low Level Bridge.
- Construction of an additional lane on Scona Road southbound from the James MacDonald Bridge off-ramp to Saskatchewan Drive.
- Construction of a noise wall on the east side of Scona Road between 94 Avenue to approximately halfway towards 93 Avenue.
- Sidewalk, curb and gutter, and Shared Use Path construction.
With the additional lane on Scona Road southbound, a free-flow condition will be introduced for traffic exiting from the James MacDonald Bridge to Saskatchewan Drive. This will improve the overall traffic flow and safety of the roadway.
About the Project – 99 Street Rehabilitation
The City of Edmonton has completed the reconstruction of 99 Street, between 81 Avenue to Saskatchewan Drive, and on 83 Avenue, between 99 Street and 100 Street.
Construction Included:
- All new curb, gutter and sidewalks and road base.
- The replacement of street lights.
- Streetscape elements, as yet to be determined.
Timelines
The major construction on Scona Road and 99 Street is now complete. Final landscaping activities are being completed in fall 2012 with any carry-over work being scheduled for spring 2013.
