Project Update - May 2016
106 Avenue 97 Street to 101 Street
Construction began in May 2016 and is scheduled for completion in October 2016.
Stage 1: 106 Avenue between 97 Street and 99 Street will be totally closed. Pedestrian traffic to the businesses and residences will be maintained. Stage 1 is scheduled to be completed by July 30, 2016.
Stage 2: 106 Avenue between 99 Street to 101 Street will be totally closed. Pedestrian traffic to the businesses and residences will be maintained. Stage 2 is scheduled to be completed by October 16, 2016.
Please note that parking will not be permitted in signed areas. Businesses and residences are encouraged to find alternate temporary parking areas during construction.
About the Project
In spring 2015 the City of Edmonton began roadway reconstruction and streetscaping along:
- 106 Avenue from 97 Street to 101 Street
- 107A Avenue from 95 Street to 97 Street
106 Avenue (97 Street to 101 Street)
Scope of work:
- Remove and replace the two-lane roadway, including new curb alignment to accommodate wider pedestrian space
- Install new sidewalk, curb and gutter
- Upgrade existing drainage infrastructure
- Upgrade existing streetlights to decorative black poles with LED luminaires
Public realm improvements will include:
- Widened and aesthetically enhanced sidewalks with streetscape furniture
- New tree pits and landscaping
- Decorative roadway and pedestrian street lighting
- Retaining on-street parallel parking
107A Avenue (95 Street to 97 Street)
Scope of work:
- Remove and replace four-lane roadway, including new curb alignment to accommodate wider pedestrian space
- Remove existing concrete median at 96 Street
- Install new sidewalk, curb and gutter
- Upgrade existing streetlights to decorative black poles with LED luminaires
Public realm improvements will include:
- Widened and aesthetically enhanced sidewalks with streetscape furniture
- Construction of a plaza area between 95 Street and 96 Street
- New tree pits and landscaping
- Decorative roadway and pedestrian street lighting
- Retaining on-street parallel parking
95 Street & 97 Street Enhancements
The corridors along 97 Street between the CN underpass and 107A Avenue, and 95 Street between 107A Avenue and 109 Avenue, were identified for streetscape enhancements through the replacement of existing streetlights. The existing trolley lights would be replaced with new poles/LED lighting with the possibility of additional street furniture and way-finding. Construction timing for this work is pending funding availability.

Project History
The McCauley Revitalization Strategy was approved by City Council in 2011 with a commitment to invest $10.5 million into the McCauley area. In 2012 work began on a Focused Urban Design Plan prepared in consultation with the community in 2012-13.
Project Update - December 2015
The majority of the scheduled construction on 107A Avenue (from 95 to 97 Street) work has been completed. Additional construction work required includes landscaping, decorative streetlight installation and other minor construction activities will be completed in early 2016. The impact to motorists and pedestrians is expected to be minimal.
106 Avenue (from 97 to 101 Street) utility relocation work continues and roadway construction is anticipated to begin in May of 2016.
Public Meeting - April 9, 2015
On Thursday, April 9, City representatives presented information regarding the upcoming streetscape construction planned for the McCauley areas of 106 Avenue and 107 Avenue.
