Complete Streets is a new approach to planning and designing Edmonton’s transportation system. It moves away from traditional, standards-based design. The idea is based on designing a street that reflects the surrounding area’s context, land use and users.

Main Streets Update to the Complete Streets Policy

Administration recently presented to City Council’s Transportation committee a proposed update to the Complete Streets Policy regarding our Main Streets.

Main Streets are not only transportation links, they are streets that act as strong community places and often have a tie to business and community revitalization. Administration is working to define Edmonton’s Main Streets, update the Complete Streets Policy and to develop a program of streetscaping tied to the capital and operating budgets to construct and operate Main Streets to an enhanced standard.

Jasper Avenue has been historically recognized as Edmonton’s Main Street and will benefit from this policy update.

Jasper Ave New Vision

Imagine Jasper Avenue will continue in spirit of the Jasper Ave New Vision which set out a plan to revitalize Jasper Avenue from 100 Street to 109 Street and transform it into a dynamic place celebrating Edmonton’s social, economic and cultural vitality.

The Oliver Area Redevelopment Plan

The Oliver Area Redevelopment Plan (ARP) provides a planning framework to guide development and revitalization in the Oliver neighbourhood consistent with the Council-approved vision and guiding principles, while allowing adequate flexibility to address a range of market conditions. It provides policy and objectives for Oliver in the following areas: transportation, land use, access, recreation, parking, business and social services development and implementation.
