Fort Road Widening
About the Project
Fort Road, from 131 Avenue to 137 Avenue, has been widened to accommodate an increase in traffic.
It is now a six lane divided roadway complete with left turn bays.
Construction Included:
- Widening to six lanes from 131 Avenue to Manning Drive.
- Replacement of existing road base.
- New traffic signals at 132 Avenue and Fort Road, and 134 Avenue and Fort Road.
- Sidewalk and storm sewer improvements.
- Replacing sod and local accesses in areas disturbed by construction, and tree planting.
- Decorative streetlights.
- Overhead lines along the east side of Fort Road were relocated underground.
Traffic Impacts
During construction Fort Road was reduced to 2 lanes southbound and 1 lane northbound. Access to all properties was maintained during construction.
Timeline
Construction began in May 2011 and was completed in October 2012.
