April 2013 - Project Update

The upgrading of 215 Street is complete and the road is open to traffic in both directions. Remaining work includes construction of the shared-use path, and the completion of the right turn lane onto Webber Greens Drive as well as some accesses on the west side of 215 Street. Traffic impacts in the area will be minimal.

About the Project

215 Street will be upgrading to 2 urbanized lanes; south of Webber Greens Drive to north of Whitemud Drive. This will accommodate the growth and increased traffic flows from future developments.

215 Street, south of Webber Greens Drive to north of Whitemud Drive, will be closed in 2012.

Construction Includes

• 215 Street (Webber Greens Drive to Whitemud Drive) upgrading to 2 urbanized lanes
• Shared Use Path along the east side of 215 street
• New street lighting
• New right turning geometry
• Curb and gutter improvements 
  

Timeline and Funding

Construction began in May 2011 and is expected to be complete in 2013.

The 215 Street Widening is funded and managed exclusively by an independent developer, Melcor Developments Ltd, and its consultant, AECOM Canada Ltd.

When an independent developer begins a residential or commercial project they also develop the roadways to accommodate any traffic impact from the future development. These projects are funded and managed exclusively by the developer. It is the City of Edmonton’s responsibility to ensure the developers are complying with the approved standards and specifications.
