142 Street Rehabilitation
About the Project
The City’s rehabilitation project on 142 Street from 118 Avenue to Yellowhead Trail was completed and opened to traffic in the fall of 2015. The project included a rebuild of four traffic lanes and installation of a bicycle path, separated from traffic along the east side of 142 Street.
This is a pilot project for the City’s Complete Streets program, which is designed to integrate all road users safely, including pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, truck drivers, and public transportation users of all ages and abilities. Streets are designed to reflect the surrounding area's characteristics and the needs of all the users in the community.
Access to Yellowhead Trail from 142 Street will end when the Yellowhead Trail Strategic Plan receives funding and work begins. The strategic plan calls for the elimination of some existing access points to the Yellowhead in order for it to function as a freeway. Current access to the Yellowhead from the 142 Street traffic light controlled intersection will be eliminated in favour of an expanded intersection at 149 Street. A construction start date for access closures recommended in the Yellowhead Trail Strategic Plan has not been announced.
