137 Avenue & 170 Street Upgrade
About the Project
To accommodate growth and increased traffic flows in west Edmonton, the City has rehabilitated and widened the intersection of 137 Avenue and 170 Street.

Construction included:
170 Street, North of the Intersection (from the intersection to 200m north) |
- Construction of an additional northbound lane.
- Construction of a southbound to westbound right-turn bay.
- New pavement, curb and gutter.
- Construction of a new shared use path (SUP), east of 170 Street, that connects to the existing SUP in St. Albert.

- Construction of an additional northbound to westbound left-turn bay.
- Construction of sidewalk on the west side of 170 Street.
- New curb and gutter on the west side of 170 Street.

- Construct 137 Avenue to a 6-lane divided roadway (3 westbound and 3 eastbound through lanes).
- Construction of a westbound to northbound right-turn bay.
- New curb and gutter, north of 137 Avenue.
- New pavement.

- Construct 137 Avenue to a 6-lane divided roadway (3 westbound and 3 eastbound through lanes).
- Construction of a new SUP, south of 137 Avenue.
- Construction of an eastbound to southbound right-turn bay.
- Construction of an eastbound to northbound left-turn bay.
- Construction of a concrete median to separate eastbound and westbound traffic.

- Upgrading of the existing traffic signals and street lights.
- All overhead power lines, with the exception of the lines northeast of the intersection will be buried.
- Installation of a storm drainage line.

Timeline
Construction began in spring of 2012 and was completed in October 2012.
