112 Avenue & 50 Street Reconstruction - Project History
Project Update - September 2014
Work completed in September includes:
- Installation of soil cells on the westbound lanes starting at 50 Street.
- Installation of road base gravel, curb and gutter.
- Concrete work began for a separate sidewalk starting at 50 Street westbound.
- Installation began on the underground work starting at 50 Street westbound.
Work from 60 Street to 68 Street will be completed as part of year two in 2015.
Project Update - August 2014
- Soil cells were installed for the eastbound lanes between 50 Street and 53 Street.
- Underground installations were completed on the eastbound lanes between 55 Street and 60 Street.
- Grading and base gravel were installed from 50 Street to 55 Street.
Upcoming:
- Install soil cells for eastbound lanes from 55 Street to 60 Street.
- Begin sidewalk concrete work for eastbound lanes from 50 Street to 60 Street.
- Complete underground work at the 55 Street and 66 Street intersections.
Lane Reduction - June 2014
Starting Monday, June 30, 50 Street from Ada Boulevard to 118 Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction for over four months for road reconstruction. 112 Avenue from 50 Street to 60 Street will also be reduced to one lane in each direction.
Project Update - July 2014
- Drainage work is substantially completed on eastbound lanes.
- Base asphalt work is ongoing on eastbound lanes.
- In August, work will begin on the westbound lanes.
Open House - April 15, 2014
The City of Edmonton held a public information session to present reconstruction plans for 112 Avenue from 50 Street to 68 Street in advance of construction scheduled to begin this spring.
In order to capitalize on budget and resource efficiencies, the rehabilitation of 50 Street from Ada Boulevard to 117 Avenue has been added to the scope of this project. Plans for this work were also presented.

Open House - September 2013
On September 16, the City held an Open House to present a draft concept plan for key enhancements for the area between 62 Street and 68 Street, with a specific focus on the commercial area from 64 Street to 66 Street. These design enhancements would reflect community character and make it more enjoyable for people visiting the commercial area.
March 2013
The recommended four-lane reconstruction option was approved by the Transportation Committee of Council on March 13, 2013.
Project Update - January 2013
On January 29, the City presented a recommendation for the reconstruction of 112 Avenue, between 50 Street and 68 Street.
