Building Great Neighbourhoods - Westmount
What’s New
Project Update - Spring 2016
Construction is tentatively scheduled to commence on May 2, 2016. Please anticipate that the duration of construction in front of your residence may be up to 12 weeks (weather dependent).
The construction consists of removal and replacement of public sidewalk, curb and gutter, streetlight replacement as required and reconstruction and paving of the road.
On March 30, 2016 the City met with businesses around the High Street area and on April 22, 2016 the City met with businesses adjacent to 124 Street. These meetings were to discuss the upcoming construction and potential impacts to businesses' access and parking as part of Westmount's neighbourhood reconstruction. The following displays were presented at these meetings.
About the Program
Reconstruction in Westmount began in spring 2015 with completion expected in 2017.
Neighbourhood reconstruction is a type of neighbourhood renewal that involves road reconstruction and repaving, as well as replacement of streetlights and reconstruction of sidewalks, curb and gutter. Alley renewal is not part of neighbourhood reconstruction.
Property owners will have the opportunity to make choices about what they will pay for during neighbourhood reconstruction via local improvements of sidewalks and decorative streetlights.
For information about what to expect during reconstruction, visit the 2015 Neighbourhood Reconstruction page.
Complete Streets Pilot Program
Complete Streets represents a change in roadway design philosophy. Streets will be designed to reflect the surrounding area's characteristics and the needs of all the users in the community. Westmount has been chosen as a Complete Streets Pilot Project. Residents and property owners will have the opportunity to use the Complete Streets Guidelines to have informed discussion about roadway design and to look at new or different transportation infrastructure to reflect the local character of the community.
