Building Great Neighbourhoods - Parkallen
About the Project
Neighbourhood renewal in Parkallen was completed in 2012.- Neighbourhood reconstruction began in summer 2010.
- The City worked on 10 project areas between 2010 and 2012.
- Construction included roadway reclamation, streetlight upgrades and reconstruction of the sidewalk, curb and gutter.
- The cost-share portion of sidewalk reconstruction paid by property owners was a lump sum of $164.08/m or $12.36/m per year for 20 years.
Funding
Neighbourhood renewal projects are paid for by property taxes, provincial funding and cost sharing. Property owners will see their portion of the shared costs added to their property taxes as a "Local Improvement,” which can be paid in one lump sum or over a period of 20 years.
As part of this renewal project, the City and property owners shared the cost of sidewalk reconstruction, 50/50.
