Building Great Neighbourhoods - Capilano
About the Project
Neighbourhood renewal in Capilano was successfully completed in 2013.
- Neighbourhood reconstruction began in summer 2011.
- The City worked on 27 project areas between 2011 and 2013.
- Construction included roadway reclamation, streetlight upgrades and reconstruction of the sidewalk, curb and gutter.
- The cost-share portion of sidewalk reconstruction paid by property owners was a lump sum of $154.17/m or $12.12/m per year for 20 years.
Funding
Neighbourhood renewal projects are paid for by property taxes, provincial funding and cost sharing. The City and property owners will share the cost of sidewalk reconstruction through a 50/50 Local Improvement tax levy. This levy can be paid in one lump sum, or over a period of 20 years.
